Stretch films are commonly used to hold boxes and pallets together during transportation to ensure that the products being transported don’t break or get damaged in the process. But then again, there must be more to it than just the packaging process, right? Well, yes. And that is what you are here to learn about. The actual manufacturing process of the stretch films is called extrusion which, for the most part, involves the melting and formation processes which are the major part of the production processes of the stretch film resin. The whole process ends with a master oil that is then converted into many different stretch film sizes.

After the master roll has been manufactured, it needs to be unwound which then forms the many different stretch film sizes and width. It can take anywhere between 2 to 5 days to fully complete the process.

  1. Converting the electronic length and machine counters

The electronic length counters are employed to enable all the converters to easily adjust the roll lengths for every film thickness. Here is where you will also notice that the thicker stretch films have shorter rolls compared to the thinner ones. This is the reason for the same overall weight of all of the stretch films. With this process, the customers are assured of getting their desired stretch film length and thickness.

  1. Restricted core sized and conversion limits

The converting machines will make the converter reduce the overall master roll to the size that the customer desires. However, there is a key limitation here, which is the overall size of the core. The stretch film converter is usually limited to the size of the rolls which means requesting for any odd stretch film size will require that the whole core size to that width which would cost you higher. 

  1. The pre-stretch stretch film

This is another popularly produced product that the stretch film conversion produces. The pre-stretch stretch film is produced when the stretch film is pulled from the master roll which is then stretched to up to 90% of its available stretch-ability. One of the main advantages of this product is that it is a relatively cheaper option to opt for.
